The lecture is based on the reading of foundational texts of western modernism, specifically Descartes’s ‘Discourse on the Method’, and delves into the complicated questions of human-nonhuman binary as a critical concept in the conceptualization of humanity. Drawing parallels between Descartes’s ideas on the difference between humans and animals, and current anthropocentric notion of AI, it interrogates core tenets of contemporary western technological and scientistic society where AI is being increasingly cast into the role of “constitutive other”.
Drawing on and engaging with the art and theory of cyberfeminism and xenofeminism, the work appropriates, remixes and subverts contemporary patriarchal pop-cultural icons, figures and memes to propose an alternative, distinctly anti-masculinist and, in extension, anti-anthropocentric notion of technology.
